How Do I Choose the Right NEMA Rating?
NEMA 12 suits indoor panels that need protection from dust and dripping liquids. NEMA 3R adds protection against outdoor rain and sleet. NEMA 4 is rated for hose-directed water and washdown areas, and NEMA 4X adds corrosion resistance — Kooltronic 4X units use stainless steel shells for food, beverage, chemical and marine environments. On filter fans, the enclosure rating is only maintained when the supplied filter is installed.
What Is the Difference Between an Air Conditioner, a Heat Exchanger and a Filter Fan?
A filter fan moves ambient air through the enclosure and only works when the surrounding air is cooler than your target internal temperature, and clean enough to bring inside. A heat exchanger keeps the enclosure sealed and transfers heat to ambient air or water without a compressor, but still needs ambient to be below your target. An air conditioner uses refrigeration to cool below ambient, so it is the only option when the surrounding air is hotter than the temperature your electronics need.
Do Kooltronic Units Qualify for Two-Day Shipping?
Kooltronic units under 20 lbs. qualify for two-day shipping within the continental United States — that covers most filter fans, blowers and motorized impellers. Larger air conditioners and heat exchangers exceed that weight, so contact us for a shipping quote on those.
