Fuji Electric FRENIC-MEGA (G2) Advanced Variable Frequency Drives

The FRENIC-MEGA (G2) is the current generation of Fuji Electric's flagship drive platform, covering 1/2 HP to 1200 HP on 230 V, 400 V and 460 V supplies. It is the recommended platform for new installations and the designated replacement path for several discontinued FRENIC series.

Three advances over the G1 platform

Permanent magnet motor support. The G2 natively drives both Interior PM (IPM) and Surface PM (SPM) motors, so a machine can be built around a high-efficiency PM motor and reach system efficiency well beyond a standard induction motor installation.

Built-in Safe Torque Off. STO is certified to SIL2/PLd and satisfies IEC 62061 and ISO 13849, which removes external safety contactors from many machine safety architectures and shrinks both panel cost and wiring.

High-response vector control. Fast torque response with or without encoder feedback, suiting precision machinery and servo-like positioning duties that previously needed a separate servo amplifier.

Connectivity and construction

  • RS-485 Modbus RTU standard; optional PROFIBUS-DP, DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP, CC-Link and PROFINET
  • Enhanced EMC performance and extended operating temperature range
  • Improved cooling design and comprehensive on-board diagnostics

Typical applications

Safety-rated machinery requiring certified STO, PM motor retrofits and new high-efficiency designs, precision positioning and indexing, extruders and winders, and any line being brought into an Industry 4.0 data architecture.
