The National Instruments USB-8451 I²C/SPI Interface Device is a versatile, bus-powered solution designed for robust communication with integrated circuits, peripheral interface devices, and System Management Busses. Offering eight independently configurable digital I/O lines, the USB-8451 provides flexibility for various applications such as I²C device configuration and LED toggling, making it ideal for consumer electronics development.

This compact interface device features a USB series B receptacle and dual 16-position screw terminal plug headers for connectivity. Its proximity to I²C/SPI devices helps mitigate noise issues, enhancing reliability in communication. The USB-8451 operates without the need for an external power source, drawing power through its full-speed USB interface, which supplies up to 80 mA with a maximum of 500 mA, ensuring easy portability and installation.

Incorporated protective measures safeguard against overcurrent, overvoltage, and undervoltage conditions on SPI and digital I/O signals. The device supports four SPI modes and an advanced API for executing custom I²C and SPI transactions. Designed for indoor use, the operational temperature range is 0 °C to 45 °C, while it can be stored between -40 °C and 85 °C. The device measures 2.50 in. × 3.35 in. × 0.91 in. (6.35 cm × 8.51 cm × 2.31 cm) without connectors and weighs 3 oz (84 g).
