National Instruments PXI-8195

The National Instruments PXI-8195 is a robust and efficient embedded controller designed for PXI systems, featuring a 1.5 GHz Intel Pentium M processor. This architecture enhances mobile performance and efficiency, delivering performance equivalent to a 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 system while operating with reduced power consumption. The controller requires one system slot and three expansion slots, making it a compact yet powerful solution for various applications. Integrated with the Mobile Intel 915GM Express chipset, the PXI-8195 ensures optimal stability and flexibility, supporting a full-rate Gigabit Ethernet connection and an ExpressCard interface for additional I/O options.

The device offers a comprehensive range of onboard peripherals, including 10/100/1000 BaseTX Ethernet, GPIB (IEEE 488.2) interface, serial and parallel ports, USB 2.0 ports, a Watchdog/Trigger SMB, and a PS/2 keyboard/mouse connector. Users can further expand functionality through the ExpressCard/34 slot, allowing for the addition of various peripheral I/O options, such as Bluetooth, IEEE 1394, or Wi-Fi capabilities. The PXI-8195 is fully compatible with the NI-DAQmx driver software and can be integrated into various application development environments, including LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, and Measurement Studio. Configuration is straightforward with the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) tool.

Booting options for the PXI-8195 include the internal IDE hard drive, network PXE server, external SCSI hard drives, and external USB mass storage devices. This compact controller weighs 1.7 pounds and has dimensions of 3.2 x 5.1 x 8.5 inches, making it suitable for space-constrained environments. Although National Instruments has announced the obsolescence of the PXI-8195, it remains available for purchase and repair through Apex Waves.
