National Instruments PXI-7354

The National Instruments PXI-7354 (Part Number: 778540-04) is a high-performance Sinusoidal Commutation, 4-axis Stepper/Servo Motion Controller Module designed for PXI systems. This module is equipped with eight 16-bit analog-to-digital converters, facilitating onboard data acquisition and enabling advanced motion trajectory features. Its integrated non-volatile flash memory allows for field upgrades of onboard firmware, encompassing DSP code, real-time operating system (RTOS), and FPGA configuration files, ensuring long-term usability and adaptability.

The PXI-7354 supports 64 digital I/O channels and is capable of utilizing encoders or secondary feedback resources for servo axes, making it suitable for applications that require dual-loop control, such as backlash compensation. Signal management is handled via two 68-pin motion I/O connectors and two 68-pin digital I/O connectors, which encompass all necessary signals for controlling both servo and stepper motion, including trigger inputs, motor command analog, and encoder feedback inputs. The module has power requirements of 2 A at +3.3 V, 2 A at +5 V, and 30 mA at +12 V, with a maximum power consumption of 18 W.

Programming the PXI-7354 is streamlined through a high-level application programming interface (API), with support for dynamic link libraries (DLLs) for seamless integration into various environments, including LabWindows/CVI, LabVIEW, and Microsoft Visual Basic or C++. Configuration can be performed using the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) tool. The controller is rated for an operating temperature range of 0 to 55 °C, a storage temperature range of -20 to 70 °C, and a non-condensing relative humidity range of 10 to 90%. Although the PXI-7354 has been designated as obsolete by National Instruments, it remains available for purchase and repair through Apex Waves.
