National Instruments PXI-4071

The National Instruments PXI-4071 is a multifunction, 3U PXI module designed as a FlexDMM, providing the advanced measurement capabilities typically associated with high-resolution digital multimeters (DMMs) alongside digitizer functionalities. This versatile instrument offers precise voltage measurements ranging from ±10 nV to 1000 V, current measurements from ±1 pA to 3 A, and resistance measurements from 100 Ω to 5 GΩ, as well as frequency/period and diode measurements. In its high-voltage digitizer mode, the PXI-4071 can capture DC-coupled waveforms at sampling rates up to 1.8 MS/s across all measurement modes, enabling users to analyze waveforms in both time and frequency domains using NI LabVIEW software.

Exceeding the performance limits of traditional 7.5-digit DMMs, the PXI-4071 benefits from a modern architecture that leverages the fast PXI bus, achieving DC reading rates of 7 samples per second at 7.5 digits, and up to 10 kS/s at 4.5 digits for applications requiring higher throughput. It features a rapid auto-ranging time of 250 ms for both AC and DC voltage measures, a range/function change rate of 10 changes per second, and a trigger latency of 2 µs, with a maximum trigger rate of 1 kHz. A warm-up period of one hour is required before operation to ensure optimal performance.

Additionally, the PXI-4071 supports trigger import and export functionality, facilitating integration with multiplexer and matrix switch modules, and is fully compatible with National Instruments’ switching solutions. When used in conjunction with NI switch modules and NI Switch Executive software, this DMM can measure multiple channels, including voltages, thermocouples, RTDs, and thermistors, providing users with comprehensive measurement capabilities while managing system costs effectively.
