It features an 8-slot configuration, allowing a maximum system bandwidth of 132 MB/s and a slot cooling capacity of 30 W. The chassis incorporates advanced cooling technology with two framework fans and a power supply fan, providing filtered, forced-air cooling that effectively meets the thermal demands of various modules. Users can select between a high fan setting for enhanced cooling capabilities and an automatic fan setting that optimizes acoustic output, achieving noise levels as low as 43 dBA. This makes the PXI-1042Q particularly suitable for office, research, and benchtop environments.

Constructed with a detachable, high-performance AC power supply, the PXI-1042Q ensures efficient energy management and reduced electrical noise on the chassis backplane through a separate 12 VDC line dedicated to the cooling fans. The design facilitates a mean time to repair (MTTR) of under five minutes thanks to its modular construction. The chassis supports 3U PXI and CompactPCI modules, making it highly adaptable for a wide array of applications. With an operating temperature range of 0 to 40 °C, it is capable of functioning reliably in diverse conditions.
