Description

The National Instruments PCI-1408 is a PCI-based high-accuracy image acquisition (IMAQ) board designed for monochrome video processing. It supports various video standards including PAL, RS-170, NTSC, and CCIR, accommodating a wide range of nonstandard imaging devices across its four input sources. The PCI-1408 features an 8-bit resolution and operates within a pixel clock range of 5-20 MHz, with a dedicated 8-bit look-up table (LUT) for improved signal processing. The inclusion of an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) facilitates efficient conversion of video signals into digital format. This board is factory calibrated, enabling straightforward installation and immediate usage for image acquisition tasks.

For synchronization, the PCI-1408 is equipped with an integrated RTSI bus that allows for the connection of additional trigger and timing signals to up to four NI DAQ boards within the host computer. The RTSI bus also permits multiple simultaneous captures using the PCI-1408. Programmers have flexibility with various development environments available, including IMAQ Vision, LabVIEW, and LabWindows/CVI. Operating modes include VIDEO0 input mode, which can utilize two sources via a BNC connector or a 25-pin DSUB port, and offers differential input (DIFF) and referenced single-ended (RSE) modes. In RSE mode, one analog input line feeds into the board’s video multiplexer circuitry, while DIFF mode utilizes two AI signals for video acquisition. Although the PCI-1408 has been declared obsolete by National Instruments, it remains available for purchase and repair through Apex Waves.

Technical specifications include support for four video inputs and a frequency response of 20 MHz (-3 dB) typical. Both RS-170/NTSC and CCIR/PAL formats are supported, and the scan rate is programmable. The dimensions of the PCI-1408 measure 4.2 x 6.9 inches, and it weighs 0.28 pounds. It is backed by a 2-3 year warranty, and user manuals for installation and maintenance are available for download. For pricing information, please contact a sales representative.
