National Instruments FP-1001

The National Instruments FP-1001 Network Module serves as an essential component for integrating various RS-485 connector cards within the FieldPoint system. Designed for seamless connectivity, the FP-1001 can be connected to a host PC or the RS-485 repeater port of a FP-1000. Utilizing a full-duplex RS-485 communication method, this module supports a multidrop arrangement, allowing users to connect multiple FP-1001 modules in a single network setup without the need for a dedicated repeater. Each module features switch-configurable addresses (1 to 5), enabling straightforward identification and organization within a FieldPoint bank.

The FP-1001 facilitates power management for all I/O modules in the associated bank using a 11-30 VDC power supply, which is regulated through the network module. This design does not allow for individual power control for each I/O module but does permit the use of terminal bases for independent power connections if necessary. Comprehensive software support is provided through FieldPoint-compatible programming environments, including LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI, as well as the FieldPoint Explorer Configuration Utility and OPC server.

Key technical specifications of the FP-1001 include selectable baud rates ranging from 300 to 115200, with a maximum cabling distance of 4000 ft from the host. This device weighs 8.4 oz and operates within a temperature range of -40 to +70 °C for operation and -55 to +90 °C for storage.
