Description

The National Instruments 780218-01 (PXIe-4498) is a versatile 16-input sound and vibration module specifically designed for high-channel count applications. Featuring 24-bit delta-sigma analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), this module ensures exceptional measurement precision across an extensive dynamic range. Each input channel operates in a pseudodifferential configuration with 50 Ω impedance between the negative input and chassis ground, making it ideal for noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) analysis, as well as dynamic structural testing where accurate data acquisition is critical. The 780218-01 supports a wide sample rate range from 100 samples per second to 204.8 kS/s, with a resolution of ≤181.9 μS/s.

Simultaneous sampling on all channels is a key feature, allowing for synchronized measurements across multiple transducers such as microphones and accelerometers. The integrated anti-aliasing filters automatically adjust according to the selected sample rate, ensuring data integrity free from aliasing effects. The module supports direct memory access (DMA) for efficient data transfer between the module and host system, while the 4095-sample FIFO buffer enables continuous data acquisition at high sampling rates. The 780218-01 can handle maximum input voltages of ±10 V on the positive terminal and ±1 V on the negative terminal, with AC-coupled measurement accuracy maintained closely within 0.1 dB when operating within 5 °C of the last self-calibration point, and up to 0.15 dB across the full operating temperature range.

With an input impedance of 10 MΩ and support for Transducer Electronic Data Sheet (TEDS) per IEEE 1451 standards, setup and configuration errors are minimized. The module also provides IEPE excitation, allowing for the powering of sensors that require constant current, with software-selectable current settings. Features such as digital trigger capabilities and programmable analog trigger settings enhance flexibility for triggering data acquisition under specific conditions. Engineered to perform reliably within a temperature range of 0 °C to 55 °C and at altitudes up to 2000 meters above sea level, the 780218-01 offers a lightweight and compact solution, weighing 326 g (11.5 oz) and measuring 16 cm × 10 cm (6.3 in. × 3.9 in.), excluding connector dimensions.
