Description

The National Instruments 778572-14 Signal Insertion Switch Module, also known as the PXI-2514, is a sophisticated fault insertion unit (FIU) designed for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) applications and electronic reliability testing. This module features a switch bandwidth of 800 kHz and comprises seven channels along with two fault bus lines, enabling it to effectively simulate control system faults, such as open connections, shorts between pins, shorts to battery voltages, and shorts to ground. Each module includes feedthrough channels that can be configured to open or short to one or more fault buses, making it an invaluable tool for validating engine control units (ECUs) and full authority digital engine controls (FADECs) in conjunction with the LabVIEW Real-Time Module.

The NI 778572-14 is rated for Measurement Category I, capable of handling signal voltages up to 19.8 Vrms or 28 VDC, with a maximum continuous current of 40 A per channel. The maximum switching power per channel is rated at 1,120 W, featuring relay characteristics that include a typical operating time of 8 µs and a maximum of 35 µs. It utilizes FET relays, providing unlimited relay life within specified limits. The module supports input and output triggers through PXI trigger lines, with pulse widths ranging from 1 µs to 62 µs, and a minimum input trigger pulse width of 150 ns.

Measuring 21.6 cm x 4.1 cm x 13.0 cm and weighing 513 g, the NI 778572-14 occupies two slots in a PXI/cPCI chassis, and is compatible with PXI Express. It operates effectively within a temperature range of 0 °C to 50 °C and supports relative humidity levels from 5% to 85%, with a maximum altitude of 2,000 meters. The module meets essential European Directives, including the Low-Voltage Directive, Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive, RoHS, Radio Equipment Directive, and ATEX. Additionally, it complies with safety standards IEC 61010-1 and UL 61010-1, as well as EMC standards EN 61326-1 and FCC 47 CFR Part 15B.
