The Honeywell Spyder 8 IO is a Variable Air Volume (VAV) controller that's programmable with a robust interface comprising 4 UI, 2 AO, and 2 DO. This individually-licensed controller utilizes a BACnet MS/TP communication protocol and an RS-485 connection, thus enabling high-speed data transmission with baud rates between 96 and 1152 kbits/s.
One of its standout features is its integrated actuator and real-time clock, alongside a Sylk bus system that allows its use with Sylk-enabled sensors. The controller housing and actuator have been designed to comply with UL Plenum ratings for added safety. In terms of capacity, it can support up to 40 controllers per BACnet MS/TP segment, although a total of 30 is recommended for optimal performance.
Designed for flexibility, the Spyder 8 IO features a function block engine allowing the designer to program the controller for various HVAC applications. It offers built-in zone control functions including a remote wall module interface and scheduler. Its sophisticated design incorporates a Microbridge airflow sensor equipped with a dual integral restrictor.
Installation is made easier with the directed mounting of the actuator onto the VAV box damper shaft, capable of handling up to 44 lb-in (5 Nm) torque and featuring a 90-degree stroke with 90-second timing at 60 Hz. For improved accessibility, all wiring connections are made to removable terminal blocks, simplifying both controller installation and replacement.
This device runs on a power voltage of 24 VAC with a valid range between 20 to 30 VAC. Furthermore, it operates efficiently in temperatures ranging from 32 F to 122 F. The Spyder 8 IO meets all necessary approval standards, being UL/cUL listed under UL916 for Open Energy Management Equipment and featuring a Plenum rating. It also satisfies the requirements for FCC Part 15, Subpart B, Class B in relation to radiated emissions.
As a product from the renowned Spyder family of controllers, this product serves as a programmable, stand-alone device. Its application is versatile and can readily scale from fan coils to Variable Air Volume (VAV) system. Plus, with its damper shaft mount design, the installation is straightforward.
