The GE Fanuc IC694BEM331 Genius Bus Controller is designed to interface between the PACSystems RX3i platform and the Genius I/O serial bus, providing seamless connectivity for a variety of Genius blocks, remote drops, VersaMax and Field Control I/O stations, as well as PLCs equipped with Genius Bus capabilities and Genius Hand-Held Monitors (HHM). This robust bus controller supports an exchange of 128 bytes of data with each connected device, enabling automatic fault reporting—such as alarms and predefined issues—back to the bus controller for efficient diagnostics. The controller processes these messages, which can be displayed in the fault table when integrated with the corresponding programming software. The IC694BEM331 is capable of maintaining Genius datagrams and transmitting up to 128 bytes of Global Data per bus review, facilitating spontaneous data broadcasting across the system. With support for up to eight Genius bus controllers, each handling up to 128 bytes, the module enhances system flexibility and capacity. The device features LED indicators on the front panel for operational status. Its advanced diagnostic functionality leverages a daisy-chained bus cable using a single twisted pair plus shielding or Twinax, with options for fiber optic cable and modems. The maximum bus lengths vary depending on baud rate, ranging from 7800 feet at 4Kbaud to 2000 feet at 153.6 Kbaud. The controller can accommodate up to 32 devices at most baud rates, although this number drops to 16 at 38.4 Kbaud. It is compatible with multiple series, allowing for data exchange with RX3i Genius bus controllers running firmware version 1.5 or higher. Note that this module does not include a handheld monitor connector; however, a handheld monitor can still interface with the controller. The IC694BEM331 operates on a 5V DC supply and has an operational current of 300 mA, with transient ratings up to 1500 volts.
