The IC693APU305 is an advanced Input/Output processor module within GE Fanuc's 90-30 series of PLCs, specifically designed for high-performance control applications such as velocity measurement, fast response process control, material handling, marking, and packaging. This module features direct processing capabilities, allowing it to sense inputs, process information, and control outputs without relying on communication with the CPU. It interfaces with the CPU through 32 discrete inputs (%I), 32 discrete outputs (%Q), 15 words of analog inputs (%AI), and 6 words of analog outputs (%AQ), the latter of which is utilized by the CPU program to define timer values and manage control parameters.

Configuration of the IC693APU305 is streamlined using a Series 90-30 hand-held programmer, Logic Master 90-30, or VersaPro software, with default settings enabling broad applicability across various applications. The module eliminates the need for jumpers and DIP switches, ensuring simplicity in deployment. Operator status is visually indicated by six green LEDs located on the top of the module, which reflect operating status, hardware output status, and configuration parameters.

The module comprises 12 points of positive logic inputs, accommodating input voltages of either 5 VDC or 10 to 30 VDC, and features 8 positive logic outputs: 4 rated at 1 Amp and 4 configurable outputs at 0.5 Amps. To provide protection against damage, all outputs are safeguarded by a replaceable fuse. A dedicated processor enables a 500 µs I/O update time, and a terminal board facilitates field wiring connections.

Diagnostics are integral to the module, with internal checks and 32 range comparators that return output data through %I and %AI. The design includes 4 strobe data registers that measure input pulse length or spacing in milliseconds. Outputs are typically employed to drive indicators, relays, solenoids, and similar devices. Power for the module's internal circuitry is sourced from the 5 VDC bus on the baseplate backplane, while input and output devices must be powered by an external user-supplied source or the +24 VDC isolated output from the 90-series supply. All configuration parameters are downloaded from the PLC to the I/O processor post successful internal diagnostics, with the CONFIG OK LED signaling readiness. A watchdog timer actively monitors processor operation, disabling all outputs and turning off the MODULE OK LED upon detecting any issues.
