The Beckhoff EL6731 is a high-performance EtherCAT terminal that serves as a seamless gateway between modern EtherCAT networks and established PROFIBUS systems.     Performance Architecture

    The EL6731 must buffer data between the extremely fast EtherCAT backbone and the legacy PROFIBUS speeds. Understanding this speed difference is crucial for cycle time configuration.

    Protocol Comparison

    *EtherCAT is roughly 8x faster in raw bandwidth than the fastest PROFIBUS setting.

    Cycle Time Sync

    The EL6731 allows cycle times down to 200 µs. However, the PROFIBUS cycle time is usually the limiting factor. The EL6731 decouples these, allowing the EtherCAT bus to run faster while the EL6731 buffers data for the next PROFIBUS cycle.
