The National Instruments PXI-8156 is a versatile embedded PXI/cPCI controller designed for comprehensive PXI functionality, supporting both C function calls and interactive utility. This controller features an Intel MMX Pentium processor with options of 166 MHz or 233 MHz, and is equipped with a variety of I/O ports readily accessible on the front panel, including a 3.5-inch 1.44 MB floppy drive, a 2 GB hard drive (expandable), Super VGA, two RS-232 serial ports, a USB port, PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports, a 10BaseT Ethernet port, an Extended Capabilities Port (ECP), and a 24-pin GPIB port. The controller also includes LED indicators for device power, drive status, and Ethernet port activity.
For enhanced peripheral expansion, the PXI-8156 utilizes the ISA and PCI local buses, facilitating the connection of additional peripherals typically requiring add-in cards in standard desktop systems. A maximum of 128 MB DRAM can be installed, and the unit allows easy alterations to jumper settings. Included with the controller is the NI-488.2M software kit, which simplifies control of external GPIB-capable instruments, in addition to the NI-VISA programming API for seamless development with serial, parallel, and GPIB devices. Although the PXI-8156 has been classified as obsolete by National Instruments, it remains available for purchase and repair through Apex Waves. Dimensions are 3.2 x 5.1 x 8.5 inches, and it weighs 2.4 pounds with 16 MB of DRAM installed. A warranty ranging from two to three years is offered, and user and maintenance manuals can be downloaded for reference. For pricing information, please contact a sales representative.
