National Instruments PXI-8108

The National Instruments PXI-8108 is a microprocessor-based PXI controller designed for a range of industrial applications. Powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 processor operating at 2.53 GHz with a 6 MB L2 cache, the controller is equipped with 1 GB of single-channel DDR2 RAM, which is upgradeable to a maximum of 4 GB. Additionally, it features an 80 GB SATA hard drive with a rotational speed of 5400 rpm. With a Mobile Intel GM45 Express Chipset and integrated graphics processing unit (GPU), the PXI-8108 offers solid graphics performance suitable for general applications, although it lacks advanced 3D rendering capabilities for high-end use cases. The controller supports operating systems such as Windows 7 Professional, Windows Vista Business, and Windows XP Professional, with potential compatibility for Windows 10, albeit with limited driver functionality. It includes a DVI-I connector supporting both VGA and digital monitors, with a VGA adapter included. It is important to note that dual-monitor support is not provided by the onboard graphics, necessitating additional hardware for simultaneous output on both VGA and DVI.

The PXI-8108 presents various I/O interfaces, including a DVI-I video output, a COM 1 serial interface, an RJ45 Ethernet port, a parallel port, four USB 2.0 ports, a PXI trigger interface, a GPIB controller interface, and an ExpressCard/34 expansion slot for further versatility. Constructed within dimensions of 3.2 x 5.1 x 8.5 inches and weighing 2.02 lbs, the controller operates efficiently across a temperature range of 0 °C to 55 °C. The PXI-8108 is compatible with multiple software development platforms like LabVIEW, Measurement Studio, and Microsoft Visual Studio, alongside the NI-DAQmx driver. Although the PXI-8108 has reached an obsolete status as announced by National Instruments, it remains available for purchase and repair through Apex Waves.
