The National Instruments PXI-6608 Counter/Timer Module (Part Number: 777937-01) represents an advanced solution in the NI-660x series, offering enhanced capabilities over its predecessor, the PXI-6602. A standout feature of the PXI-6608 is its high-stability oven-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO), which significantly improves the precision of time measurements and pulse generation. This module is equipped with eight up/down counters/timers, each providing 32-bit resolution. It requires a power supply of 1 A to 2.5 A and operates with a 300 mV Schmitt trigger hysteresis. The module supports measuring and sourcing frequencies of up to 80 MHz, with input impedance ranging from 25 kΩ to 500 kΩ and an output impedance of 75 Ω.

To ensure accurate operation, especially in buffered counter applications, the PXI-6608 features duplicate count prevention and synchronous counting mode. This functionality is essential for accurately tracking external pulses between the rising edges of the Gate signal. The OCXO can function as either a GATE or SOURCE for the counter or serve as the PXI backplane clock, offering a common reference for synchronizing multiple modules in measurement or control systems.

The PXI-6608 is fully supported by the NIDAQmx driver software, facilitating integration with various software development environments such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, and Measurement Studio.
