The Fuji Electric BU90-2C is an external dynamic braking unit (DBU) rated for 90 kW (125 HP) drive systems on 200V class supplies for use with Fuji Electric FRENIC-MEGA (G1) variable frequency drives. It supplements or replaces the drive's built-in braking transistor where regenerative braking energy exceeds the drive's internal capacity.
When a VFD rapidly decelerates a high-inertia load, the motor becomes a generator and returns energy to the drive's DC bus, raising the bus voltage. The braking unit monitors DC bus voltage and, above a set threshold, switches the regenerative energy into an external braking resistor where it is dissipated as heat, preventing overvoltage faults and enabling fast, controlled deceleration. Typical applications include cranes, hoists, winders, centrifuges, and high-inertia fan and pump systems. Must be paired with a suitably rated external braking resistor (sold separately).
