National Instruments PXI-8330

The National Instruments PXI-8330 (Part Number: 777945-01) is a high-performance Interface Module that leverages MXI-3 technology, making it a crucial component in MXI-3 based Multisystem Extension Interfaces for PXI/CompactPCI systems. Designed to enable direct control of PXI/CompactPCI systems via copper cabling, the PXI-8330 supports a maximum cable length of up to 200 meters. This module achieves peak performance with a data transfer rate of 132 Mbytes/s and sustained rates of 84 Mbytes/s. Integration into a PXI/CompactPCI chassis requires a PCI-833x plug-in board installed in a corresponding computer, facilitating communication through MXI-3 cabling.

The MXI-3 functionality operates as a PCI-to-PCI bridge, enhancing the typical bridge framework by splitting it into two segments linked by a 1.5 Gb/s serial connection. This innovative architecture allows two PCI buses to interact in accordance with PCI-to-PCI Bridge Architecture Specification Version 1.0 and PCI Specification Revision 2.1, establishing seamless hardware and software transparency. Users can expand a PXI/CompactPCI chassis into a multisystem configuration by connecting one PXI-8330 module in any peripheral slot of an existing PXI chassis and linking it to a second PXI-8330 module in the first slot of another chassis.

In terms of specifications, the PXI-8330 measures 6.3 x 3.9 inches and operates within a temperature range of 0 to 50 °C, with storage capabilities from –20 to 70 °C.
