National Instruments PCI-7340

The National Instruments PCI-7340 Motion Controller is a versatile device designed for precise control of up to four axes of motion, accommodating both stepper and servo motors. This controller supports a servo PID update rate ranging from 62.5 µs/sample to 5 ms/sample, and a stepper trajectory update rate between 62.5 to 500 µs/sample. It features dedicated hardware for limit switches, home switches, and a variety of general-purpose I/O functions, enabling users to process up to 10 motion programs simultaneously. The PCI-7340 is equipped with two 68-pin female high-density VHDCI connectors, providing one for motion I/O and the other for digital I/O.

Utilizing advanced motion profiles governed by enhanced PIVff/PID servo updates, the PCI-7340 includes 4 analog inputs and 4 analog outputs, both with ±10 V ranges, alongside 32 bits of digital I/O. The analog inputs feature a 12-bit resolution with a 50 µs scan rate, while the analog outputs deliver a 16-bit resolution. The device leverages a dedicated digital signal processor (DSP) for calculating PID control, executing position tracking, and managing other critical tasks, all while maintaining a low power consumption of 5.7 W.

Further enhancing its capabilities, the PCI-7340 runs an embedded Real-Time Operating System (RTOS), ensuring optimal performance in dynamic motion applications. The DSP processor operates in close synchronization with the main processor, facilitating precise trajectory generation to control velocity and acceleration. With a compact design measuring 6.9 x 3.9 inches and weighing only 0.25 lb, this motion controller is efficient and powerful, making it a suitable choice for various automation and control applications.
