National Instruments BNC-2178

The National Instruments BNC-2178 is a high-speed switch and VideoMUX multiplexer designed for seamless integration with the NI Analog Video Analyzer and compatible NI-5122 and NI-5124 digitizers, utilizing the NI Video Measurement Suite. This versatile multiplexer operates effectively with S-video and composite signals, facilitating synchronization and measurement applications. The BNC-2178 incorporates two internal components: a dual nine-channel multiplexer and a Video Synchronization Extractor, ensuring reliable performance in video signal management. It supports up to 16 composite video channels with an input impedance of 75 Ω.

The BNC-2178 offers impressive sampling capabilities, achieving a real-time sampling rate of 100 MS/s and an equivalent-time sampling rate of up to 2.0 GS/s. For optimal performance, it is recommended to use the multiplexer with a TEGAM signal conditioning amplifier, providing input levels from 2 mV to 100 mV. To operate effectively, the device requires NI VMS 3.1 or later, or VideoMASTER Analyzer 3.0 for earlier configurations.

Though National Instruments has announced the obsolescence of the BNC-2178, the multiplexer remains available for purchase and repair through Apex Waves.
