Description

The GE Fanuc IC693CMM321 is an Ethernet interface module for the Series 90-30 PLC. It connects the PLC to an Ethernet LAN through an AAUI cable and external transceiver, enabling communication with host computers and other control devices on the network.

The module provides both client and server capability: as a client it initiates communications with other Ethernet-equipped PLCs, and as a server it responds to requests from client devices, supporting up to 16 simultaneous server connections. It is the standard route for adding network programming, data collection, and SCADA connectivity to installed Series 90-30 systems.

    💻 Station Manager

    Before web interfaces were common, we used the Station Manager. Accessed via RS-232 serial connection to the PLC power supply, this command-line tool is used to configure IP addresses and diagnose network issues.

    Protocol Stack

    The CMM321 primarily uses SRTP (Service Request Transfer Protocol) for GE-to-GE comms, but later firmware supports Modbus TCP Server for 3rd party integration.

    Why Two Ports?

    10Base-T (RJ45)

    The standard "Ethernet" jack we know today. Used for direct connection to switches and hubs via twisted pair (CAT5) cable.

    AUI (15-Pin)

    The "Attachment Unit Interface". A legacy port used to connect external transceivers (MAUs) for thick coaxial (10Base5) or fiber optic networks.

    Note: You can only use one port at a time. Selection is often automatic or jumper/config based depending on the revision.
