National Instruments PXI-8331

The National Instruments PXI-8331 Interface Module enables direct control of PXI systems from PCs using advanced MXI-4 technology. It facilitates the connection of multiple PXI chassis in either daisy-chain or star configurations, enhancing system flexibility and scalability. Capable of handling 1.5 Gbit/s serial data rates via a copper data link (sold separately), the PXI-8331 operates as if it were a PCI module integrated within the host PC. It is compatible with other MXI-4 devices and offers two variations: part number 778955-01 with copper cable connections and part number 778955-02 featuring a copper interface that supports both 3.3V and 5V operation. For optimal performance on Windows 10 64-bit, PXI Platform Services version 15.0 or higher must be installed. This module provides essential features like error checking and retransmission, with a peak data transfer rate of 132 Mb per second. Proper power management is crucial, as powering off the expansion chassis while the host PC remains on may lead to system crashes. The PXI-8331 module has physical dimensions of 3.9 x 6.3 inches and weighs 0.55 lb, with an operating temperature range of 0 to 55 °C and a storage temperature range of -20 to 70 °C. Although the PXI-8331 has been designated as obsolete by National Instruments, it continues to be available for purchase and repair through Apex Waves.
