The National Instruments PXI-8170 is a compact PXI controller featuring an Intel Pentium III processor, designed to deliver high performance in a 3U Eurocard format. This embedded PXI/CompactPCI computer is optimized for enhanced system performance and maximum computing power, compatible with all PXI and CompactPCI peripheral modules. Available with pre-installed Microsoft Windows 98 or Windows NT, the PXI-8170 can also be acquired with pre-loaded National Instruments application software, including LabWindows/CVI and LabVIEW. It is powered by an Intel BX chipset and comes standard with a 2.5-inch ultra DMA33 hard drive, one serial port, one parallel port, a 3.5-inch floppy drive, one USB port, integrated Super VGA with 2 MB of dedicated RAM, and 64 MB of 100 MHz SDRAM. The system's flexible architecture facilitates RAM upgrades up to 256 MB. The PXI-8170 requires one system slot and three controller expansion slots for installation and can be interfaced directly with PXI-1020 and PXI-1025 chassis. Peripheral expansion is achieved through PCI local bus and accelerated graphics ports (AGP), providing a graphics interface bus speed of 266 Mbytes/s and a PCI bus maximum throughput of 132 Mbytes. The controller's dimensions are 8.5 x 5.1 x 3.2 inches, weighing approximately 2.4 pounds (1.1 kg). Although the PXI-8170 has been designated as obsolete by National Instruments, it remains available for purchase and repairs through Apex Waves.
