The National Instruments PXI-4462 is a high-performance PXI Sound and Vibration Module designed for precise measurements in sound and vibration applications. This module features four independent input channels with a delta-sigma architecture and 24-bit resolution analog-to-digital conversion, delivering exceptional precision and a wide dynamic range. It accommodates sample rates from 1 kS/s to 204.8 kS/s, with minimum increments as small as 181.9 μS/s. The PXI-4462 offers multiple part number variations, including the standard model (779131-01), a hybrid slot-compatible option (779688-01), and a version with an integrated sound and vibration measurement suite (779132-01).
Flexibility is a hallmark of the PXI-4462, allowing each input channel to be configured as either differential or pseudodifferential, with software-selectable AC or DC coupling. The programmable gain amplifier stage permits gain adjustments ranging from -20 to +30 dB in 10 dB steps, making it adaptable to a variety of transducer types. The module supports both analog and digital triggering capabilities for synchronization with external events, with adjustable criteria for analog trigger hysteresis, slopes, and levels, as well as digitally triggered systems compatible with 5V TTL logic.
To ensure accurate frequency-domain representations while minimizing aliasing, the PXI-4462 employs both analog and digital filtering techniques. Its analog inputs display a mean total harmonic distortion (THD) of up to -109 dB and achieve amplitude flatness of ±0.1 dB across a frequency range from DC to 92 kHz. With software-configurable coupling and integrated IEPE conditioning, this module is ideal for applications such as audio testing, automotive noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) analysis, and machine condition monitoring. Efficient data handling is facilitated by a FIFO buffer of 2,047 samples and direct memory access (DMA) functionality for real-time data transfer, enabling high-fidelity measurements with microphones, accelerometers, and other transducers.
