The National Instruments 778640-03 MXI-4 Kit, also referred to as the PXI-PCI8331, provides a robust interface for integrating PXI systems with high-performance desktop computers or servers. Utilizing MXI-4 technology, this kit facilitates direct control over PXI systems via a high-bandwidth, transparent link that seamlessly integrates with existing software applications and drivers. The kit consists of a PCI-8331 copper board installed in the PC, which connects to a PXI-8331 copper module located in slot 1 of a PXI chassis through an appropriate cable, available separately or packaged together in the complete kit.

Designed for flexible configurations, the MXI-4 Kit supports Multi-Chassis PXI systems, allowing for daisy-chain or star connections between multiple PXI chassis. Each system can interconnect by installing a PXI-8331 in a peripheral slot of the master chassis, linking to another PXI-8331 in the slave chassis. This technology functions as a PCI-to-PCI bridge, offering enhanced performance and software transparency by utilizing a 1.5 Gb/s serial connection. The industrial-grade connectors support both 3.3 V and 5 V PCI signaling, while also incorporating error checking and retransmission features to ensure reliable operation in electrically challenging environments.

The MXI-4 Kit is capable of a maximum cable length of 10 meters, with an operating temperature range of 0 to 55 °C and relative humidity ranging between 10% to 90% non-condensing. It also endures a storage temperature range from -20 to 70 °C and humidity levels from 5% to 95% non-condensing, offering a resilient solution for various industrial automation and control applications.
