The National Instruments PXI-8106 is a robust embedded controller designed for PXI systems, featuring a dual-core Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7400 with a clock speed of 2.16 GHz. It incorporates a Mobile Intel 945GM Express chipset and an Intel GMA 950 graphics media accelerator, ensuring efficient processing capabilities and optimal video performance. The PXI-8106 offers comprehensive I/O options, including four Hi-Speed USB ports, one IEEE 1284 ECP/EPP port for versatile device connectivity, and an RS-232 port for communication with serial devices. Additionally, it includes integrated GPIB (IEEE 488) capabilities for control over external instruments.

This one-piece, rugged design minimizes integration complexities and allows for efficient use of available PXI chassis slots, as most I/O is consolidated, leaving slots free for control and measurement modules. The controller features a CompactPCI-based PXI backplane, a 4 MB L2 cache, and operates within a temperature range of 5 to 50 °C, with an extended option available. Users can connect displays via a DVI-I video connector, compatible with both digital DVI and analog VGA, making it suitable for various monitor types.

Measuring 3.2 x 5.1 x 8.5 inches and weighing 2.1 lbs, the PXI-8106 is compatible with NI-DAQmx driver hardware and works with development environments such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, and Measurement Studio, along with the NI-VISA software for instrument communication. Although National Instruments has designated the PXI-8106 as obsolete, it remains available for purchase and repair through Apex Waves, ensuring continued support for users.
