The National Instruments GPIB-100A Bus Extender (Part Number: 180240-01) is engineered to expand the functionality of GPIB (General Purpose Interface Bus) systems, facilitating seamless connections between independent GPIB or IEEE-488 bus systems. This device, compatible with parallel data transmission cables, allows for a total of up to 30 devices to be connected without sacrificing data transfer speeds or performance integrity. The GPIB-100A extender significantly extends the operational distance capabilities of GPIB systems, accommodating lengths of up to 300 meters. For applications requiring longer distances, multiple point-to-point extenders can be configured in various topologies including linear and star patterns. Data transfer rates can achieve up to 250 kbytes/sec, maintaining a minimum of 135 kbytes/sec, with the noteworthy advantage that data transfers between devices on the same side of the extension remain unaffected by distance. The architecture features an asynchronous parallel design that supports Talker, Listener, and Controller modes or operates simply in Talker and Listener mode. Additionally, the GPIB-100A offers two parallel polling response modes: buffered and unbuffered. With a standard GPIB interface load that accommodates both AC and DC, it typically operates at a voltage of 18 W. Built to endure diverse environmental conditions, this bus extender operates within a temperature range of 0° to 55° C and a relative humidity range of 5% to 95% (noncondensing). The compact dimensions of the GPIB-100A make it a versatile addition to any industrial setup, measuring 3.5 x 8.5 x 13 inches (89 x 216 x 330 mm).
