Alarms use "A." prefix (e.g., A.020); warnings that don't trip the drive use "A.9##". A separate "CN###" range covers communication-specific faults on network-connected amplifiers.
Alarms display as "AL." followed by a two or three-digit code. A decimal sub-code (e.g., AL. 32.1) often narrows the fault to a specific sub-cause within the main alarm number.
Five-digit codes prefixed "F" (fault — drive disables) or "A" (alarm — drive continues running). The digit ranges are grouped by subsystem: power section, communication, encoder, and motion control.
Knowing the prefix convention alone tells you whether you're looking at something that stopped the axis (a true fault) or something flagging a condition worth investigating before it becomes one (an alarm/warning). Don't reach for a replacement part until you've confirmed which category you're in.
